After very careful thought, I have decided to resign from my position as co-chair for the Washington state chapter of AFSP.
Those that know me best know that this decision is not an easy one for me to make. Without your great advice, I don’t think I would have realized what I needed to do. I am looking forward to some me time…me, me, ME! For me, (did I mention me?) self care means practicing yoga, enjoying the moment with my family, snuggling with my dog, and adventuring outdoors – not to mention turning my brain off for an hour while watching “Real Housewives” (hey, don’t judge me).
While I am taking time off for myself, I also need to acknowledge that I am not ready – and may never be ready – for chapter administration. I don’t want to be the boss and I don’t want to spend my volunteer time coordinating meetings, planning the budget, or putting out fires. I have to acknowledge the amazing Danna McGill, the chapter’s fearless leader, who has done all of things for the past few years without even breaking a sweat. Danna, you are amazing!
I know that the chapter will carry on making a significant impact with its talented leadership and dedicated board members and volunteers. I will continue to support these amazing people and look forward to an opportunity in the future that I may be ready to come back. So, as this one door closes, I will let you know if another door opens.
